Marangu Village is home for Chagga people, a tribe which dominates the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This village dominates the history and ancient traditions of Chagga tribe. The village is dominated by unique rainforest with residents of people mainly growing Banana and coffee. In the drought period during the old ages, Maasai people migrated to lower places of Mount Kilimanjaro in search of food and water. They found chagga people, battling for resources, Maasai enslaved some of the Chaggas. In defense, Chagga built these underground caves to fight against Maasai. After visiting war caves, you'll be headed to visit Chagga Museum . You'll also find some insights of chagga traditions.
This tour starts with a drive to Marangu gate where you'll have time to see this famous and oldest entrance gate of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After a short while, a walk to visit coffee farm will start where you'll have time to see how coffee is produced locally. You'll see the process, roasting and how to prepare a fresh coffee cup for drinking. Then you will walk to Ndoro Waterfalls. A one hour downwards trails across lush of green landscape to reach the bottom of the waterfall. Then you will be head to Chagga underground war caves .In the afternoon your guide will go to small chagga restaurant where you'll have your locally prepared lunch. At the late evening you will be driven back to Moshi Town for overnight.
